Draw a line in the sand at 700 locations and the White House this Saturday
This Saturday at over 700 locations across the country people are joining hands against offshore drilling. Oil has been gushing into the Gulf for over 60 days, it's time to take our stand!
Despite the spill, every year we give Big Oil $10 billion in handouts. That money should be directed towards clean energy investments that can move us beyond oil and provide a needed economic boost to the Gulf.
On Saturday we'll have our chance to take a stand against these backward policies. People are coming together as part of Hands Across The Sand to demand a clean energy future. The idea behind Hands Across The Sand started in Florida in response to plans to expand offshore drilling. In light of the spill, the organizers along with plenty of partners have taken it national.
Young people are helping to lead the charge. We've helped organize 40 events across the country - we'll be on beaches in Florida, across the Midwest, and also on the West Coast. And we'll help make sure the message gets across to President Obama by creating a clear demonstration outside of the White House.
One month ago at 50 rallies around the country we called for this to be our Crude Awakening; a turning point in our nation's energy policy. In response to public outcry President Obama instated a 6 month moratorium on new offshore drilling, and the Senate is starting to get serious about reigning in Big Oil. Hands Across The Sands is our opportunity to build momentum and call for our political leaders to stand with us against Big Oil handouts and fossil fuel subsidies.
It's not too late to organize or find an event, do it now!
