Congratulations! Yesterday under intense public pressure President Obama extended a 6-month moratorium on new offshore drilling.

It's a step in the right direction, but not enough - now is the time for us to plant our heels into the ground, and demand President Obama continue to stand up to Big Oil with unprecedented leadership towards a clean energy economy and a permanent ban on new offshore drilling.

President Obama's announcement yesterday is a testament to what can happen when enough people organize and offer a vision for a brighter future. 

We called the BP drilling disaster a Crude Awakening, turning out by the hundreds at over 45 rallies and vigils across the country to demand a shift to a clean and just energy future. Then CNN called it a Crude Awakening. And so did the Washington Post - and dozens of other news outlets from coast to coast. Yesterday, media outlets were reporting that Obama's announcement was prompted by public outcry. We must continue our momentum.
