About the Training

In order to prepare organizers for their role in running the Power Vote program and beyond, the Energy Action Coalition will be convening an intensive 5-day training program from August 13th-17th. Led by Wellstone Action and Energy Action, the training will focus on the critical skills for electoral and issue advocacy organizing:

  • Developing and delivering a winning message
  • Generating quality earned media coverage
  • Grassroots voter contact tactics and phases (registration, education and GOTV)
  • Volunteer recruitment and management
  • Leadership development
  • Effective coalition-building
  • Candidate education and accountability
  • Bird dogging and creative actions
  • Anti-Oppression and diversity
  • Movement strategy: our long-term plan to win!
Additionally, training participants will leave with a clear understanding of the Power Vote program goals, timeline, implementation plan, and their role in making it happen. The training will be highly interactive with a great emphasis on actually testing out the skills with time for discussion and feedback. Skills will be applicable for climate campaigning throughout the year.

Criteria For Applications

Due to limited resources and space, we have to limit the number of people we can run through the training. Things we will consider in the selection process are:

  • Priority will be given to low-income youth, youth of color and non-student youth
  • Geographic diversity
  • Commitment and ability to lead the Power Vote Campaign and grow as leaders

Costs and Scholarships

In an effort to minimize costs for participants, we are asking that you only pay $50 to cover part of the costs of your food and lodging. However, we will not turn anyone away because of the difficulty of paying the fee. Fee waivers and travel scholarships are available on a need-basis, people are encouraged to apply for them, and they will have NO negative impact on your chance of acceptance. Got it? Great! See you at the training.

Location

The training will take place at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Housing will be provided!

Everyone is encouraged to apply for the training and scholarships, those on campus, high school students and non-student youth!
